State girls swimming: Skippers have lots to offer in finals


Minnetonka has lots of swimmers in action at the state Class 2A meet on Friday at the University of Minnesota.

The Skippers will swim in the finals of all three relays - starting with a fourth-place finish of 1:49.46 in the 200 medley relay for an All-American consideration time.

Tonka swam third in the 200 freestyle relay with an All-American automatic time of 1:37.50.

The Skippers also finished third in the 400 freestyle relay, swimming 3:31.89 for another AA automatic time.

Tonka senior Molly Mason is in the finals in the 200 freestyle with a fourth-place swim of 1:52.77 - an All-American consideration time but lower than her qualifying time of 1:51.91 at the 6AA meet.

Mason also took fifth place in the 500 freestyle after a prelims swim of 5:05.64.

Skipper freshman Amelia Schilling is in the 500 free consolation finals after a ninth-place finish of 5:08.45.

Schilling just missed the consolation finals in the 200 free with a 19th-place swim of 1:57.39.

Skipper senior Kelsey McMurtry finished fourth in the 100 freestyle with 52.41. She also finished 20th in the 100 breaststroke with 1:09.57.

Junior swimmer Katie Friedlander finished fifth in the 200 individual medley with a prelims time of 2:08.20.

Skipper sophomore Jenny Einhorn took 10th in the 50 freestyle sprint for a consolations spot with a time of 24.40.

Junior Emma Lawrenz took eighth place in the 100 butterfly with 57.82 to land a lane in the finals.

Minnetonka eighth-grader Isabel Wyer took 11th place in the 100 backstroke in 59.63 for a consolation spot, and is an alternate in the 100 freestyle with an 18th-place finish of 54.39.

The Class 2A swimming and diving finals start at 6 p.m. on Saturday, back at the U of M.
