TODD ABELN

Sports Editor Shakopee Valley News & Jordan Independent

952-345-6587, tabeln@swpub.com

Todd Abeln grew up in Bloomington - playing soccer, hockey and baseball at Bloomington Kennedy High School - and still lives there. But his sportswriting career after obtaining a journalism degree at Mankato in 1999 has taken him elsewhere. He's been a sports editor for the Olivia Times Journal in Olivia, Minn., has covered south-metro sports for Thisweek Newspapers, and since March 2008 has been a sports editor for Southwest Newspapers - covering Shakopee and Jordan. His free time mostly revolves around his wife and young child - another is on the way in fall 2009 - but he also plays golf, softball and broomball to stay active.

DANIEL HUSS

Sports Editor Eden Prairie News

952-942-7947, dhuss@swpub.com

Daniel Huss is a Southwest Newspapers veteran, covering mostly Eden Prairie sports since October 1997. He came to Southwest from the Minnesota Waterfowl Association, where among other things he edited the organization's quarterly magazine. He remains a fisherman and hunter - he favors pheasants and grouse, in that order - but is also involved in his two daughters' activities, including softball and lacrosse. When you cover Eden Prairie High School you can expect to write about a lot of state championships. For Dan, highlights have included the football title win over Cretin-Derham Hall, a girls swim championship that came down to the final race, and a girls soccer championship decided in a shootout.

TIM MCGOVERN

Sports Editor Chaska Herald & Chanhassen Villager

952-345-6576, scores@swpub.com

Tim McGovern has covered Chaska and Chanhassen sports since August 2004 but has spent more than a dozen years in sports journalism. Prior to joining Southwest Newspapers he was at the Hutchinson (Minn.) Leader and the Iowa City Press-Citizen. He has a journalism degree from the University of Iowa but spent his formative years in Eden Prairie, where he played youth hockey and in high school was part of the cross-country running team. "Running around" with his two young children - and guiding their sports interests - occupies a significant part of his life.
